This programme enables suitably qualified people to acquire a nationally recognised qualification, which meets the current national standards for teachers in the post-16 sector. It allow you to teach full time with limited responsibilities, (Associate Teacher), allow you put letter behind your name –ATS.
The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is appropriate for teachers, tutors, trainers, lecturers and instructors who may be working within an FE college, Adult and Community Learning Centre or Learning Provider and for those delivering work-based training such as within voluntary, community, private and public organisations.
The certificate gives the candidate the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills needed to confirm occupational competence. This includes the planning and delivering of schemes of work and sessions, negotiation of individual goals, different teaching and leaning strategies, communication issues and exploring a range of assessment practices. Additionally optional units are available allowing the candidate to explore areas directly relevant to their own teaching role. Teaching practice is a requirement of the qualification- minimum of 30 hours. Qualification is divided into two groups. Groups A mandatory units which include 30 hours teaching practice Group B contains several optional units. This is 36 credit qualifications, 21 credits from group A and remainder 15 from group B. Some units are at level 3 and 4. However to achieve this qualification 21 Credits must be at Level 4.

The aims of the qualification are to enable learners:
1 To understand the roles and responsibilities in relation to teaching (Level 3, 3 Credits).
2 Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training (L3, 3C)
3 Delivering education and training (L4, 6C)
4 Assessing learners in education and training (L4, 6C)
5 Using resources for education and training (L4, 3C).
Candidate who have PTLLS/AET can be exempt (RPL) from 1 and 2 above.
The purpose of this qualification in the QCF is to ‘confirm occupational competence’ (D1).
A range (37) of options units is available for Group B, at level 3,4 and 5 including Inclusive Practice (L4 15 C); Action Research (L5 15 C); Teaching in a Specialist Area (L4 15C); Preparing for coaching role (L4 3C); Preparing for the mentoring role (L4 3C); Equality and diversity (L4 6C); Delivering Employability skills (l5 6C) etc.
NTC recommend Group A- 21 C plus inclusive practice which is 15 C at L4 or Group A plus, coaching and mentoring, equality and diversity and employability skills.
Externally set assignments, internally marked by NTC and moderated by the external quality assurer. Assignment for Group A is integrated in the form of Personal and Professional Practice File (3PF). Assessments tasks, is a distinctive and holistic approach to the assessment requirements of the qualifications and highly relevant to candidates working or intending to work within a wide range of learning environments in education and training. Therefore there is only two peace of written work.
There are at least 3 teaching practice observations totalling a minimum of 3 hours. Any single observation must be a minimum of 30 minutes. Observations are based on Ofsted criteria and grading. At least one of observed and assessed practice is linked to mandatory units and should demonstrate grade 2 charecteristics. NTC staff will provide support to candidates during the teaching practice. This will be by teaching staff or by the mentor. All candidates will be allocated a suitable mentor, if they do not have it.
Teaching placement is available at NTC. We welcome placement at other suitable employer.
Confirmation from your employer that you have a total of at least 30 hours’ teaching over the duration of the programme. Candidates, who do not have a placement, can teach at NTC.
You have skills equivalent to a Level 3 qualification or above or copies of certificates of qualifications at Level 3 or above.
Have good command of Literacy, (at least level 2), numeracy (Level 1+) and ICT (Level2). Candidate, who cannot produce relevant certificates, will undergo Initial Diagnostic assessment. Ample support is available to improve their knowledge and skills in Literacy/numeracy/ICT.
Minimum of 19 years old, and of sound mind.

NTC is a charity which does not withdraw any public funds; therefore we cannot provide this course free; beside this course is NOT funded by the Government. Our fees are low because we are a non profit making charity and situated in a 160 years old building.

Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training in the Lifelong Learning Sector. It is the second step on the way to becoming a fully qualified teacher, following from AET (Award in Education and Training) (Level 3) and leading towards a DET (Diploma in Education and Training) (Level 5) in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
Course is fully integrated, theory with teaching practice.
