Award in Education and Training, AET QCF/RQF (formally PTLLS)

A.E.T – Level 3 QCF/RQF 12 Credits

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (previously PTLLS) is for pre-service or in-service Teachers or Associate Teachers.

This course is aimed at candidates who:
• Would like or require an introduction to teaching.
• Seeking career progression within their area or work, and/or
• Teach on a one-to-one and/or group basis.
• Teaching assistance.
The qualification is suitable for those who work or want to teach/train as part time:
In the FE Colleges.
Private colleges and academies.
Work based learning- plumbing/joinery/bricklaying/hairdressing/gym instructor etc.
Adult & Community.
Voluntary (third sector).
Schools (GCSE, A Level etc)
Technicians and support staff in further and adult education.
One to one tuition.
Provided they are qualified/experienced in the subject


The Award qualification is made up of three units:
• Roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
• Understanding and using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in education and training
• Understanding the principles and practices of assessment in education and training.


Five days full time.
12 weeks part time (day and evening sessions available) or flexible arrangement of 10 one on one sessions.

Entry requirements:

You must be prepared to undertake an initial diagnostic assessment of your literacy/numeracy/ICT skills, as candidates are expected to be able to work at a minimum of Level 2 literacy and use of IT on entry. Candidate who has GCSE grade C or higher or its nearest equivalent will be exempt from taking this test.
An additional requirement is to undertake a numeracy assessment but the outcome will not affect your entry onto the course.
Minimum age 19 years.


Practical presentation (micro teach 15/25 minutes) and three small assignments.


The Award is worth 12 credits. Progression onto longer courses will depend on the nature of your teaching employment.


£450 / £350 for those on benefits or who volunteer at the College.
